If you're looking for the best romantic European city breaks for you and your partner, then I've put together this EPIC list for the perfect trip away.

So the eagle eyes amongst you will have actually read our rad about page and noticed that we’re married! Yes, hard to believe that we’re so grown up (or pretend to be) I know.

Whilst we’re actually not overly romantic in the traditional sense, travelling and exploring the world together has always been our love language so to speak. There’s nothing we love to share more than an adventure and where better than Europe for a romantic city break?

Together we’ve visited all but two countries on the continent, so we know a bit about the best romantic European city breaks! Cities are kinda our vibe too, as much as we do love the mountains, for a short break, you can’t beat an enchanting Euro metropolis.

With this in mind, let’s jump into my ultimate list of the best city breaks for couples in Europe.

Ya know, I could have done a “top 10 city breaks in Europe”, but I’m just feeling a bit kookie tbh, so you’re only getting 9!

How To Select the Perfect Destination For a Romantic City Break In Europe

When it comes to the best romantic city breaks for couples, there are a few different criteria I have when it comes to what actually makes a place “romantic”.

Now, this differs for everyone, which is why I’ve created a list of varied cities to suit different tastes.

Whether you’re looking for the best UK city breaks for couples or just the best romantic European city breaks anywhere on the continent, I’ve got something for everyone.

Best European City Breaks for Couples – What Makes It Romantic

  • A beautiful river to take a stroll along.
  • At least one great sunset point, preferably one you can enjoy alone.
  • Some secluded beaches with pristine water.
  • Plenty of good restaurants and quaint cafes.
  • A bunch of fun activities you both enjoy, whether that be galleries or hiking.
  • A good range of charming accommodations, preferably with a nice balcony and character features.
  • Somewhere that doesn’t require an overpacked schedule to enjoy.

Whether you’re looking for culture, beaches or adventure, the best romantic European city breaks come in all shapes and sizes!

Alright then, let’s get this out of the way because this is kinda the obvious answer, but I am adding it here to give it my official endorsement. People love to basically chat shit about Paris and honestly, I just think most of these people are jumping on the hatred bandwagon.

I’m not about that at all! Paris is one of the best city breaks for couples for a reason. It’s tried and tested and nothing says romance quite like booking a surprise trip to Paris now does it? Ok, so it’s not the cheapest destination in Europe, but it’s worth it.

You’ve got amazing restaurants, world-renowned galleries and museums, famous landmarks to spam insta with and hey, if it’s your kinda thing, there’s Disneyland too! If weekend city breaks for couples are your thing, then Paris is perfect.

The capital of Malta might not be the first place when you think of the best European city breaks for couples, but listen up! Malta holds a special place for me and will forever feel romantic knowing it was the first overseas trip my grandparents ever took. But there’s good reason these two chose this bonito island.

There are plenty of great sunset spots to watch the sun go down over the harbour and amazing restaurants for a delicious meal together. One of the best city breaks for couples on a budget, Krakow combines classic European old-town vibes with some of the most sobering history on the continent.

But hey, for more happy vibes you can take a stroll down the Vistula River, visit the magical Wawel Castle or wander the Christmas markets in winter.

Plus, when it comes to cheap city breaks for couples, Krakow gives you the most bang for your buck with plenty of awesome things to do. Here you can enjoy fancy three-course meals together for the price of Maccas in Switzerland! Who said romance was for the rich!?

Best Insurance for Your Romantic Trip

Whatever type of trip you go on, it’s always important to get good travel insurance to be sure you can relax and just enjoy yourself without a care in the world. But hey, who knows what sort of fruity stuff you might be attempting in the bathroom on one of these romantic city breaks!

I mean, a slip and a trip can happen when you least expect it and it certainly takes the edge of those cheap city break deals!

SafetyWing Travel Insurance

SafetyWing

Travel insurance is one of those annoying things that no one likes to think about, let alone pay for, when you’re planning your next trip. It can also be bloody annoying as a backpacker/long-term traveller to find affordable coverage that meets the itinerary-less lifestyle (*cough* World Nomads *cough*).

So instead of getting subpar travel insurance, now we just always go with  SafetyWing. It takes like 5-10 minutes to purchase your policy and essentially functions as a monthly subscription plan with near-global coverage!

Yo, I’m Nic, one-half of The Roaming Renegades.

I’m an adventure (and halloumi) obsessed traveller with a passion for hiking mountains, exploring cities, watching Arsenal win, moshing out to Rammstein in random European fields and getting hopelessly lost on a motorbike somewhere in Asia!

I’ve explored over 70 countries, lived in Australia and New Zealand, and spent months wandering Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe all while trying to avoid growing up!

Did it work, I dunno, but my back hurts and I still collect Pokemon cards! Who wants in?!
