Book Your Accommodation

Booking.com

Over the course of the last 10+ years of travelling, we’ve used Booking.com to book probably around 90% of our accommodation. These days you can book anything from a luxury resort to budget hotels and even hostels and rentals similar to Airbnb.

Plus, if you make an account, you get access to their ‘Genius’ loyalty program… and DISCOUNTS. Everything is laid out super easy so you know what you’re getting, and honestly, I’m just a really big fan of the platform over other major providers.

The perfect setting

Being here as one of the first to provide real luxury to the growing number of visitors to the amazing heritage site of Bagan, Myanmar Treasure Resort has been a groundbreaker for tourism in this wonderful country. Already an established name the hotel itself is showing no signs of ageing, the style of the buildings too are in keeping with that of the temples and local traditional architecture so you always feel close to the culture of Bagan even when you are taking a refreshing dip in the pool.

The resort is also located conveniently to the temples themselves in New Bagan, a bustling town just south of where the majority of the temples lie. There are even a few small temples, shrines and pagodas within the grounds of the hotel itself! Being here means easy and quick access to the historical areas and a town to walk around at night if you want to really experience local life. However it is also set back enough to feel like a calm and peaceful escape!

A place from which to launch your explorations of Bagan

Myanmar treasure resort is perfectly placed to offer you easy access to the breathtaking temples of Bagan whilst offering an escape from the heat and dust of this enchanting landscape in a luxurious setting. Being located inside the Bagan Archaeological Preservation zone this picturesque getaway is in the ideal location. Within New Bagan itself you can experience a wealth of local culture, restaurant and transportation. However it is only a few km from the main area of temples, meaning from here you can easily ride or even walk to many attractions in the area.

It strikes the perfect balance between feeling “in the thick” of the adventure and action whilst also being a calm and cultured place to relax, cool off and plan your next exploration. The staff here are also amazing at making sure your time in Bagan doesn’t disappoint. Many are locals and as such can give you tips on the best spots for sunset and sunrise. Both well known and obscure and quieter locations as well as planning out an entire itinerary of the area for you. They can also rent out e-bikes or organise a personal driver for you at competitive prices.

The most amazing location to cool off after a dusty day!

Exploring Bagan is unlike anywhere else in the world, the thousands of temples that spread out as far as the eye can see are a sight worthy of anyone’s bucket list. However this area is hot and in the dry season it can be dusty and rather harsh. The best plan for making the most of this archaeological region is to visit in the early mornings and the late afternoon/ evenings. Catching the glowing sun as it rises and then falls over this magnificent landscape in much cooler temperatures.

More than just a hotel: Somewhere to experience and learn about local culture

Sometimes with large luxury hotel complexes the worry is that you isolate yourself from the local culture. Thankfully Myanmar Treasure hotels, in Bagan and their other locations, pride themselves on their connection to that very culture. The complex itself is tastefully designed in order to reflect the ancient temples of the region, blending tastefully with the surroundings whilst also exuding contemporary elegance. Most of the staff are locals and still wear the traditional “pasa” or “Longyi” and will gladly answer any questions you might have about Bagan or Myanmar as a whole. They really do have a passion about their county, culture and heritage and take great joy in sharing that with you.

Yo, I’m Nic (they/them), one-half of The Roaming Renegades.

I’m an adventure (and halloumi) obsessed traveller with a passion for hiking mountains, exploring cities, watching Arsenal win, moshing out to Rammstein in random European fields and getting hopelessly lost on a motorbike somewhere in Asia! I am also a proud member of the LGBT+ community.

I’ve explored 80 countries, lived in Australia and New Zealand, and spent months wandering Southeast Asia, South America and Eastern Europe, all while trying to avoid growing up!

Did it work? I dunno, but my back hurts, and I still collect Pokémon cards! Who wants in?!

Looks like the perfect place to escape from the heat of Bagan! I like how this hotel focuses on helping visitors understand the local culture. I’ll keep it in mind for when I visit Bagan.

    1. Yeah, its gets so hot you need a good place to escape and cool down!! They really are wonderful too in explaining all you want to know about the region

  2. Hi Nic,

Just left Bagan a month ago. Loved the place – although I fell violently ill there LOL – and the ancient feel to the temples. I imagined myself to be Indiana Jones as I biked from ruin to ruin, enjoying the journey, snapping shots and trying to keep dust out of my nose 😉 All in all a beautiful place; both your resort and the town itself.

Cool too how you just pay the park entry fee on entering town and you are set for 5 days. Smart….because we are there for the temples and smashing sunrise and sunset shots.

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

    Signing off from Thailand.

    Ryan

    1. Ahh, too bad you were ill there, hope you still loved it like we did! It was such an adventure, we will be writing about it soon!

  3. Carol says:

Have an opportunity to go to Myanmar this September!

  4. Amy Butterfield says:

Myanmar is quickly climbing our list! And a resort that offers that perfect balance of location, accessibility and calm is what we look for. I also appreciate a resort with staff that are so welcoming and helpful, for us, that interaction is important. What a great look accommodation!

    1. Myanmar for us is now in our top 10 countries we have been for sure, there is so much here that is so authentic and beautiful, the people too are so wonderful.

  5. Eric Gamble says:

So I am not going to lie that resort, the bedroom, the bathroom and the pool area look awesome! But my question is did you feel like you cheating the experience not being a little bit more local? Or even did you feel like with the poverty around you were exploiting the area? Please don’t take it the wrong way, I ask because I had that experience in India where we stayed at some 4 star posh place by total accident and I always kind of felt bad when I would walk out of the building and see the village around it.

    1. Hey. No not really because these places, or at least here, really do help benefit the community by donating and also providing many jobs to locals and opportunities to move up, to learn English and change their lives. Plus in Myanmar as a whole accommodation is a tricky thing, there are no hostels and it is illegal to do things like couch surfing. After staying here we hiked for 3 days with a local guide through minority villages and slept in guest houses and really lived in the local way. This was something organised by ourselves from Kalaw to Inle via one of the local trekking companies there. So really just staying in some run down hotel in Bagan where they treat the staff badly or staying in a place like this where they encourage you to inquire about the culture and make sure they pay their staff well and pay back to the community is a much better option. Plus once you are out riding the bikes all day and exploring Bagan you get the fullest experience regardless of where you stay.

  6. Helena says:

That pool looks so epic!! Myanmar is moving up higher and higher on my to travel list. It looks like such a beautiful place to stay and I like that it tries to educate as well

    1. The pool is just amazing after being out exploring in the sun, gives you the perfect balance between visiting the temples and relaxing

  7. Travelling Dany says:

You’re right, the architecture is great, but also the swimming pool looks particularly good and I liked the room too. It seems like a good place to rest after exploring!

    1. Yes, the absolute perfect place as Bagan is so beautiful but at this time of the year the heat is so oppressive!

  8. Danik Bates says:

This resort looks totally awesome place to stay and may check this out when we get out to Myanmar one day. Loving the architecture out there but most of all, that pool looks so inviting right now. 😀

    1. Ahh, mate, after backpacking for 6 months this place was heaven, add to the fact that it is so hot here then that pool was such a blessing. You guys would love it over here!

  9. Livi Bee says:

Myanmar Treasure Resort Bagan looks amazing!! I like the fact that you won’t be isolated from the culture by staying here!! That, too, is a concern for me when staying at a luxury hotel. Did you all get a view of the temples from a hot air balloon ride?

    1. Yeah that is the concern sometimes for sure but this place is perfect. We caught the last flight just from the temples as it was all sold out, something to come back for for sure!
