Fun in the Sun at the incredible Costa Blanca, Spain

Sun and fun two things that spring to mind when you think of the glorious Spanish coastline! Spain has always been recognised by these two characteristics and you can find them both in Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante. It’s a place we used to visit a lot on family holidays and somewhere that seems to offer something from everyone. From holidaymakers enjoying a relaxing break in the sun and some indulgence in the incredible Spanish Cuisine to those who fall in love with the region and decide to look for a Villa for Sale in Denia. It’s something we actually nearly did as a family around 10 years ago!

So much to offer!

Costa Blanca will offer you over 240 Km of high-quality beaches and that’s just the beginning. Most people arrive in the area through the port city of Alicante either via road, land or even sea. It’s a beautiful and historic area I’ve visited many times as a child. From its stunning cathedral to the enchanting promenade there is always something to keep you entertained. Even though who aren’t too interested in spending all day at the beach can go hiking and bush walking around the city and then of course, there is the famous paella to tuck into or just some of the wonderful freshly caught fish right off the boat. On a hot day you could also cool down with an ice cold glass of horchata, a local freshly made milk drink made from tiger nuts.

Visiting Denia

Just one hour north of Alicante you will find Denia. This historical city has many things to enjoy from the traditional and awe-inspiring Fallas, an incredible festival held in commemoration of Saint Joseph which includes carnivals, huge paper-mâché sculptures and street parties. Then there is the incredibly charming town centre on which history has left its mark, from the Iberians to the Romans, the Muslims and then the Christians, each has shaped this wonderful town. There is also 20km of rocky and sandy beaches to explore, ruined castles, many walking trails in the Torre del Gerro as well as ferry routes over to Ibiza.

The beautiful city of Valencia

Where to start with Valencia? Architecture? The city is full of Santiago Calatrava’s creations. Resist the temptation to go directly to the remarkable beaches of Valencia and instead explore some of the cultural delights that await you in this beautiful and historic city.

Feeling hungry? Valencia is world renowned as the home of Paella, there are many different types too. Whether you are a sea food lover, a meat eater or a veggie like us, you can try any kind or even get a mixture. The best place to try Paella is at a Chiringuito, they are a real part of Spanish culture, especially in the summer. These small bars usually by the beach serve up tapas and drinks and most of them don’t mind if you rock up straight off the beach still in your swimsuit!

After you’ve had a good meal you can then really explore the city. Climbing up to the 10th century Santa Barbara Castle provides incredible views over the city and is one of it’s most historically significant locations. For art lovers a visit to the Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art is a must and is even home to several works by Picasso. For those who love the water Tabarca island is a perfect place to snorkel as it is a haven for marine life. Once out of the water its whitewashed crumbling old streets are charming to explore on foot. For those who love architecture the Basílica de Santa María is also a must visit. This Intricate Baroque church dates back to the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries.

The Costa Blanca in Spain sounds like fun to visit? What better way than to enjoy it with your own holiday villa. Visit a specialist website like Immoabroad and go house searching before you head down to sunny Spain!
