Top 5 ways to see more of Ibiza and Formentera without spending a fortune

Ibiza is world famous. The chilled vibe, laid back attitude and the parties that never stop. But with popularity comes a downside. You can very quickly spend a lot of money and find yourself just surrounded by other tourists that have all flooded to this popular destination. It doesn’t have to be this way. There are so many things to see and do which won’t be so hard on your wallet and will give you the chance to see parts of the Balearics that most will not.

Take the ferry to island paradise of Formentera

Ibiza’s little sister on just to the south is an absolutely must see. For as little as 10€ you can take the ferry from Ibiza Port, or Playa den Bossa but once you reach the island you will think you have actually been transported thousands of miles away to the Caribbean.

The beaches here are out of this world, with white glistening sand and sapphire clear shallow waters and far less people. There is a reason that the long thin stretch of sand at Playa de Ses Illetes was voted best in Europe and sixth best in the world, with its unbelievable views and perfect  conditions.

The restaurants here are pretty glamourous with the price tag to match, but there are also plenty of little chiringuito beach bars and supermarkets to buy supplies. Alternatively there is also the lovely little harbour at Es Calo, a quaint fishing village, and a short wander up the shore will soon reveal private little bays where you can relax in peace.

Enjoy the perfect seclusion of Espalmador

From just 19€ you can also take a 5 hour boat trip to the practically virgin island of Espalmador. Located throwing distance from Playa de Ses Illetes in Formentera, the only way to get to this private island is by boat as the currents are too dangerous to swim the distance.

And you seriously will not spend another penny while you are there, because it is truly isolated and given over to nature. There are no shops so be sure to take plenty of water and sun protection with you.

Once there you will be able to explore and swim in this completely unspoilt environment. It truly is a paradise.

Escape the heat of the sun in the Can Marçà caves

Once there you will be able to explore and swim in this completely unspoilt environment. It truly is a paradise.

From around 10€ this trip is such excellent value for money. Taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and picking up from several locations including San Antonio, Port D’es Torrent and Portinatx, it take approximately 5 hours travelling much of the west coast of Ibiza. The boat will take everyone to San Miguel port where a minibus is waiting to take you to the caves.

Once there you will be able to experience the wonderful natural caves, the lagoons and stalactites and stalagmites with the help of your guide, before heading back to San Miguel to wander around, explore the coves and grab a drink .

Embrace your inner hippy

Another good option is the Hippy Market tour, which shouldn’t set you back too much unless you go wild at the market stalls! Every Wednesday throughout the summer you can hop on the boat tour, that will take you on an unmissable ride along the northeast coast of Ibiza, setting down at Cala Martina, two minutes walk from the famous and authentic hippy market.

Enjoy the old school hippy vibes of the market, and get a feel for how it was when the island was a symbol of true hippy culture. The stalls here sell all types of curiosities and crafts  to a backdrop of live music and good food and drink.

Wind down the day watching the sun go down

The sunsets in Ibiza are world famous. Nothing quite compares to seeing gold and red streak across the sky as the sun drops below the horizon. For around 18€ you will be taken to the best spot on the island to watch it – Benirràs beach. The boat will take you there and drop you off, and the guides onboard will talk you through the amazing coastline and features as you travel.

And if you are able to book on a Sunday, you will also be able to get lost in the experience of the hippy “tamborada” drum party, before hopping back on the boat to return back.

There is a definite advantage to planning and booking these trips in advance to ensure you get the best from your holiday. To book or find more trips like this check out Excursiones-Ibiza.com for ideas and more information on this amazing location.
