Planning a round-the-world trip is an exciting time. Whether you’re planning for the dream scenario or if you’ve finally saved enough for an adventure of a lifetime, there’s nothing more thrilling than leaving the 9-5 behind and embarking on your travels. The world is your oyster, and there are so many places to visit and things to do. So, how do you choose where to go? In this article, we’ll be recommending some of the best places you absolutely cannot miss when going on a round-the-world trip.
Why a Round the World Trip?
Round-the-world trips are something most people never get to experience, so when you finally save enough money to do it, it can be exhilarating. But why spend all that money on one experience instead of investing in a house or car? Well, they’re simply more rewarding. Sure, you could buy a shiny new car, but the memories and personal growth you experience when on a round-the-world trip will change your life for the better. It’s been proven that spending money on experiences rather than material items is more fulfilling and rewarding. The places you go, the people you meet and the memories you create will change you in ways buying that new handbag or car never would. In todays world of greed and consumerism, its refreshing to turn away from materialism and towards living your life to the fullest.
It’s not just people who’ve saved up for years who can afford to take a round-the-world trip. There are some lottery winners who have unexpectedly had their lives changed overnight. One lottery winner won a massive £79 million on her second ever bet! She plans on traveling the world with that money, and with that kind of cash, much better than sitting in your big fancy home but not REALLY doing anything with all that freedom! Another won £1 million and used it to quit his job and travel the world for a whole year. But to be honest, you don’t have to be millionaire to travel full time around the world, we did it by just saving up for a couple of years and being frugal.
Travelling can change your whole life and give you a whole new lease on life. Let’s look at a few of the best locations to visit on your trip.
For a taste of history and beauty, Peru is the place to go. Machu Picchu is one of those cliche spots among backpackers and world travellers, but for good reasons. There aren’t any roads to take you to the town beneath the mountain named Aguas Calientes. Instead, you can either opt for the 2-4 day long hike along the world-famous Inca Trail, or you can catch a 5-hour long train from the city of Cusco.
Visiting the cities of Peru is an incredible experience and the food is just mind-blowing. Also, make sure you get to Machu Picchu to catch the sunrise. It’s a truly unforgettable and beautiful experience which will stay with you forever.
Australia has it all. Sprawling beaches, incredible nature, vibrant cities and some of the friendliest people on Earth. It’s one of the best places to start your round the world trip, as the people are so welcoming and will help you get started. There is so much to see and do in the country to suit whatever your tastes may be. We lived in Australia for a year as part of our round the world trip and fell in love, calling Melbourne home for 7 months and then exploring the rest of the country over the rest of our time there!
It’s an English speaking country which is similar to countries such as the UK and US, so you won’t be thrown into the culture shock right away. It’s still an exotic and awe-inspiring country which is unlike anywhere you’ve ever been before.
South Africa is the perfect place for nature lovers and city dwellers alike. There is so much to do here, you may just need a whole month to scratch the surface. An obvious reason to come is to visit the famous Kruger National Park where you can see some of the most incredible wildlife in the world.
There’s a lot more than safari here, though. The Transkei is a beautiful coastal region for an epic road trip and even more epic waves for surfers out there. The Drakensberg mountain range makes for one of the best hikes you’ll ever go on. For one of the best views of a city you’ll ever get, make your way to the top of Table Mountain and peer over the entirety of Cape Town.
No Excuses, Start planning now!
A round-the-world trip is an experience you’ll never forget. Instead of spending money on material goods, invest in experiences. These are just a few of the best places to visit and you’ll never regret your trips there. So, no more excuses, start planning that trip today, save where you can and it will become a reality!
