As a Volunteer
Thailand offers many opportunities for volunteering if you want to do something meaningful on your vacation. You can stay in a monastery and help the monks with day to day activities, teach English to children, or work in an orphanage.
There are also many animal projects that you can help with and you can help look after elephants, rescue dogs and cats from the streets, or help with a marine project that will allow you to clean up beaches, collect data on local plants, help with reforestation, ocean clean up, and marine conservation. Volunteering may require a time commitment so it is best to make all of your plans before entering the country.
On a Golfing Holiday
Thailand is a great place for people who are looking for a golf vacation. Golf is becoming quite popular and there are more and more golf courses being developed. There are plenty of companies that offer golf packages in Thailand which include accommodation, transportation to the golf course, and PGA certified instructors. Pattaya and Hua Hin are great areas for golf vacations.
On a Backpacking Adventure
Thailand is a great area for backpacking and you will find that transportation, accommodation, food, and partying is very inexpensive here. A couple can live comfortably for about $50USD a day here and still try out all of the jungle tours, snorkelling, visits to historical monuments, and boat trips that they desire. Rent a scooter to get around. You can join guided tours if you want or rent a hut and use your scooter to get around.
Phuket is a great place to start for your island hopping experience. Taking a flight from Bangkok to Phuket is the quickest way to get there but you can also travel by train or by bus. Once you are in Phuket you can easily take ferries to exciting places like Ko Phi Phi, Krabi, Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan, and Ko Tao.
If you travel with a group of people you can also charter a boat and explore the coastline at your leisure. The beaches are stunning and whether you are looking for a place to party or a quiet beach where you are the only ones there, Phuket is a great area for island hopping.
