Be one with the desert, with the mountains, with the wind. An adventure in Dubai can become the adventure of a lifetime, with opportunities to see the country like few people dare to.
Blokarting, a lightweight, wind-powered vehicle, sails along at up to 30 kilometres per hour.
Go further afield with a dirt bike tour, with or without a guide. Or Go karting, speeding along on a track at 55 kph. Not fast enough? Jump in a Formula 1 racecar (with a professional driver, don’t get too excited!), and hit speeds up to 300 kph.
Still not satisfied? Try Ferrari World, the biggest indoor theme park anywhere. Conquer the Formula Rossa, the fastest roller coaster in the world, accelerating from zero to 240 kph in under 5 seconds.
Dune buggies, what better way to explore the sand dunes of the desert surrounding Dubai? Unless the more powerful quad bike is your thing. Not for the feint of heart, dune bashing in a 4 x 4 will leave you breathless as you plunge face-first down massive sand dunes. BMX or mountain bike rentals, both are an exhilarating way to explore the terrain.
Practice your moves at an in-town gym, then take a climbing excursion to Sal Hamdan, an ancient mountain village. Another option is a mountain trek in the Al Hajar Mountains, the area’s tallest range. Stunning views and petroglyphs make for a stunning hike.
Do you really want to get into the UAE? Visit the caves near Jebel Hafeet. Trained guides lead expeditions into the earth, a rare view of the wonders of the land.
Some have called Dubai’s developing coastline one of the modern wonders of the world. Originally conceived to expand the shoreline beyond commercial sea ports and seaside industrials facilities, the Palm Jumeirah are man-made islands arranged in a palm tree motif.
Naturally, water sports abound in the gulf: kiteboarding, surfing, windsurfing, and will keep you amused. Are boats more to your liking? Try a sailing lesson, or jump in a kayak for a slower view of life on the water. Deep-sea fishing trips take your party 10-miles out so you can earn your own catch of the day. Or try your hand at spear fishing
Relish the feel of the wind rushing through your hair in a daring speedboat ride, or follow along by waterski or wakeboard. For a subtler venture, parasail in the Persian Gulf, 200 metres above the sea. The views are breathtaking, but the ride is quite gentle.
The ultimate way to view the skyline and coastline of Dubai is from above, gaining a new perspective on some of the most incredible architecture in the Middle East, if not the world.
Tandem skydiving will give you both thrills and views. Not quite ready for the real deal? Try indoor skydiving to work up the nerve.
Another option to get a bird’s eye view is by seaplane, either for an overview tour, or as transportation within the UAE. Or you can enjoy a more mellow morning, in a sunrise hot air balloon ride overlooking the vast desert.
Adventure for All
Perhaps you want to expand the experience of your favourite sport in a new location, or try for thrills you didn’t know existed. Whether you’re a weekend warrior, die-hard enthusiast, or a mild-mannered but curious pioneer, Dubai has a plethora of options for everyone.
Have you ever visited Dubai and taken part in any of these amazing activities?
