So…instead of doing our usual post looking forward to all the things we are going to do in the coming year, we want to inspire our readers to change their lives and go for their dreams this year! We have already written about what an amazing year we have just had. As well as the plans we have to finally take the leap and quit our jobs and set off on the adventure of a lifetime. So get a load of these 26 quotes from people who have inspired us to weave a life around our passions rather than shelve them and settle for a life of banality! Make this the year the year that someday comes true!
What we have come to realise, particularly over the last year, but most definitely over the last few years is that so many people get caught up in an acceptably banal normality. Settling for a life in which they must drag themselves out of bed every morning at an ungodly hour to do something they hate. They do this for 5 out of 7 days a week, 48 out of the 52 weeks we have a year and 50 to 60 of the 80 years we hope to be on this earth for!
The problem being mediocrity which from a day in day out perspective is something we can “put up with”, it doesn’t tug and tear and most people (luckily it does to us) on a daily basis, they coast through checking days, weeks and years off calendars waiting for yearly holidays such as a short and frenzied vacation or the Christmas break. Years and years of this suspended existence go by in the blind hope that one day it will end and we will be free, we will be able to cash in that check and do everything we have ever dreamt of! But we shelve our passions for that long we forget who we are! Living with a silent regret that builds and builds over the years, turning us into cynical and skeptical old people who by the time retirement comes we are just to worn down to care.
We have one precious life that is slipping away from us day by day, hour by hour…don’t sell it off to the highest bidder. Use your time to do the things YOU want, not your boss, your parents or nagging partner. Your life belongs to you! Money comes and goes, but time just goes…Craft your life around your dreams, your passions and your hopes, make money to make a life not the other way around!
So here goes…prepare to be inspired!

“The most dangerous risk of all – The risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet that you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.”
― Randy Kosimar
“In your twenties you can’t even imagine the prospect of regretting time that you’ve wasted. You’re young, hot and you’re convinced your life is fun. Wait until you’re 30+, and it all flashes before you in a generic blur, full of the same offices, the same bars, the same safe choices. All those laughs with the same people don’t seem so funny anymore. Horizons weren’t broadened, bold choices weren’t made and now you’ve had your epiphany, it could be too late. Have a little forethought, are you really chasing your dreams? Are you maximising your potential? Are you being honest to yourself? Push yourself, do something crazy, then do more of that.”
“By using money as the scapegoat and work as our all-consuming routine, we are able to conveniently disallow ourselves to do otherwise: ‘John, I’d love to talk about the gaping void I feel in my life, the hopelessness that hits me like a punch in the eye every time I start my computer in the morning, but I have so much work to do! I’ve got at least three hours of unimportant email to reply to before calling prospects who said ‘no’ yesterday. Gotta run!”
― Timothy Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek
“Waste your money and you’re only out of money, but waste your time and you’ve lost a part of your life.”
“Most of us spend our lives as if we had another one in the bank”
“We’ll never be as young as we are tonight.”
“…so many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day, to have a new and different sun. ”
― Chris McCandless, ‘Into the Wild’
“Men talk of killing time, while time quietly kills them.”
“Go for broke. Always try and do too much. Dispense with safety nets. Take a deep breath before you begin talking. Aim for the stars. Keep grinning. Be bloody-minded. Argue with the world. And never forget that writing is as close as we get to keeping a hold on the thousand and one things–childhood, certainties, cities, doubts, dreams, instants, phrases, parents, loves–that go on slipping , like sand, through our fingers.”
“Use your health, even to the point of wearing it out. That is what it is for. Spend all you have before you die; do not outlive yourself.”
― George Bernard Shaw
“The opposite of love is indifference, and the opposite of happiness is boredom.”
― Timothy Ferriss
“Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today.”
“As you grow older, you’ll find the only things you regret are the things you didn’t do..”
“Life is not lost by dying; life is lost minute by minute, day by dragging day, in all the thousand small uncaring ways.”
― Stephen Vincent Benét
“$1,000,000 in the bank isn’t the fantasy. The fantasy is the lifestyle of complete freedom it supposedly allows.”
― Timothy Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek
“This is your life and its ending one moment at a time.”
“Once in a while it really hits people that they don’t have to experience the world in the way they have been told to.”
“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”
“Men for the sake of getting a living forget to live.”
― Margaret Fuller
We’re constantly scared to make bold decisions; the path of least resistance draws us in hungrily. Societal pressures subconsciously dictate which decisions we make, and we choose to mirror our friends’ mistakes rather than go it alone. Better to stay part of the pack, safety in numbers, we’re all in it together. This is life, it’s not quite what I hoped it would be, but it’s manageable. And so a life of mediocracy awaits. We’re so beaten down with negativity and fear that we don’t truly, truly believe that we can do what we want. We’re cowards but we won’t admit it, none of us. Every morning you wake up, you have decisions to make. Delaying that decision merely means that you’ve already decided to accept where you are right now. You know what we want in your life. But here you are, not actively doing anything to make it happen.
“I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”
“For all of the most important things, the timing always sucks. Waiting for a good time to quit your job? The stars will never align and the traffic lights of life will never all be green at the same time. The universe doesn’t conspire against you, but it doesn’t go out of its way to line up the pins either. Conditions are never perfect. “Someday” is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you. Pro and con lists are just as bad. If it’s important to you and you want to do it “eventually,” just do it and correct course along the way.”
― Timothy Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek
“Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.”
― Edgar Allan Poe
“You’ll learn, as you get older, that rules are made to be broken. Be bold enough to live life on your terms, and never, ever apologize for it. Go against the grain, refuse to conform, take the road less traveled instead of the well-beaten path. Laugh in the face of adversity, and leap before you look. Dance as though EVERYBODY is watching. March to the beat of your own drummer. And stubbornly refuse to fit in.”
― Mandy Hale
“Rules and responsibilities: these are the ties that bind us. We do what we do, because of who we are. If we did otherwise, we would not be ourselves. I will do what I have to do. And I will do what I must.”
― Neil Gaiman
“The problem with this repetitive sequence of: epiphany, lack of action, regret, feeling of worthlessness – is that it doesn’t only render our action unachieved, but it actually makes us feel worse than had we not had our false epiphany at all. This is a sequence that we need to recognise as it’s occurring, and take action to counter it. If we’re brave enough to set ourselves a goal, and we should all do that frequently, then we have to be brave enough to allow ourselves to achieve it.”
