We have been climbing for over a year now but when it comes to outdoor experience we are pretty much beginners. We have bouldered outdoors a little but today we had the chance to really try out climbing on some higher stuff!!
I always expected that climbing at heights wouldn’t bother me, but to my surprise once I was high up on the rock I started to loose my confidence!! To be fair this is the highest I had ever climbed indoor or outdoor and I am much more used to bouldering, but by the end of the day once I had done a few routes and my hands had warmed up enough to actually grip the rock I really enjoyed it and wanted to do more!
Of course being our first outing trading we didn’t do any leading, but I felt like I picked up a lot of new information on climbing I had been oblivious to just bouldering and sport climbing. I look forward to coming back out and eventually leading some routes myself. I also found that I really enjoyed the quarried grit and found it to suit me as a climber.
The pace is also very different to bouldering and I did get a little bit cold waiting for my turn and belaying, but I enjoyed getting out and experiencing a different type of climbing and definitely want to get out and do some more trading and longer/ higher routes. The challenge is just so much more mentally demanding than bouldering and gives you something extra to think about!
