Bridestones is one of the classic Gritstone bouldering locations in the UK and certainly in the North West. This is a rocky outcrop on the edges of Todmorden in Yorkshire and is notoriously difficult!
The weather was bright and brisk, perfect conditions for the rounded gritstone up here. Bridestones is actually quite close to where we live but being in the middle of nowhere and without a car it is also frustratingly hard to get to! We were up here doing some filming for Liam’s uni project more than anything but managed to get quite a bit of climbing done.
One thing anyone who has climbed up here will tell you is that it is hard! If you can climb at a decent grade anywhere else you will get knocked down a peg or two up here! But the scenery is beautiful and the rocks have amazing features and shapes carved over the years by the elements, even if you don’t climb this is a great place to come for a walk. It is a highly recommended venue for bouldering and I was pleased to tick a few problems off today, but please take care when climbing to dry your feet, no wire brushes and never climb on the Bridestone itself.
