This week we are super pleased to be hosting a guest post from one of the coolest blogs around: HostelGeeks! As you may know, we love a good hostel, we even wrote here why we think they are better than hotels…and the guys at HostelGeeks tend to agree!!
Have you ever had a problem with finding a great hostel? So many hostels to choose from, so little time. On our website HostelGeeks we aim to be your shortcut to the most awesome hostels in the world: our chosen 5 Star Hostels What are these 5 Star Hostels, we hear you say? It is the highest standard for hostels, a unique concept by HostelGeeks.
All you need to do in order to find great Hostels: check the map, pick your destination and book it through whatever website you prefer. As for a booking, we recommend to check out the official website of the 5 Star Hostel. This is where you can score the lowest prices, avoiding any type of fees. We at HostelGeeks don’t offer any booking service. But okay, okay…let us start from the beginning.
Why 5 Star Hostels?
We are Anna & Matt, the girl and guy behind Hostel Geeks. Other than for Hotels, there are no fixed standards for Hostels. There are no stars, no rating system, no nothing, nada, niente! This leaves a big hole which is usually filled with lots of marketing-effort. And we don’t really like that…We wanted to clear this fog of marketing speech and bring a little transparency to our fellow travellers. So we put together 5 fixed criteria reflecting the values of hosteling.
Through HostelGeeks, we have started the highest standard for Hostels: awarding them with 5 stars. Here, every awarded Hostel has to fit the following criteria:
1. Sustainable and eco-friendly
2. Awesome Design
4. Social Vibes
5. Great Staff
As basic criteria every hostel has to offer a guest kitchen, free Wi-Fi and both shared and private accommodation.
The 5 transparent criteria plus these basics ensure every traveller a great setting for a top hostel experience. Why only a great setting? Well, at the end of the day that’s all the hostel can set up. It is up to the traveller to take advantage of that.
So go there, talk to fellow travellers, and join the hostel events e.g. free dinner night, movie night, and so on. Say yes more often!
Examples for 5 Star Hostels in Europe
This all sounds good so far, right?! Let us give you some examples of our 5 Star Hostels.
1. Hello I’m Local Hostel in Haarlem, the Netherlands
“Hello I’m Local“ is a local boutique hostel in Haarlem. The full name of this 5 Star Hostel really gives you an insight view: „Hello I’m Local, I am the most local boutique hostel in the world“! And yes, that is seriously the full name.
Hello I’m local in Haarlem impresses travellers from all over the world by its design AND character. This hostel is not just beautiful from the inside, but also from the outside…oh wait, that one doesn’t really work with an accommodation, but you get the picture!
Every single item you find throughout the accommodation comes from the local area and the Netherlands. This is especially impressive as this includes everything: from the mattresses, to the art, to architecture and even the food!
2. Fair & Square Hostel in Belgrade, Serbia
Fair & Square hostel in Belgrade is a perfect example, that location is not everything. This brand new hostel comes in an industrial design. Fair & Square hostel has its own garden, which allows bbq‘s, hanging out and enjoyment of breakfast with coffee in your hand and the sun on your face.
Located a 5-10 minute bus ride to the city centre of Belgrade, the Fair & Square Belgrade let’s you enjoy the busy city centre during the day and tranquil hostel stay at night.
3. STAY Hostel Rhodes in Rhodes, Greece
Combine a dream beach destination with a fantastic hostel, and we end up in Rhodes. The STAY Hostel is located in the new town of Rhodes. And the best part: STAY Hostel is only a five minute walk away from the beach. Walk with your sandy beach feet through a stylish hostel combining modern fresh design with upcycled furniture.
Are 5 Star Hostels the best Hostels in the world?
We hear this question a lot. And we have to admit: We actually do not like to think this way. Why? The word „best“ is completely overused, and is based on nothing rational. It has become a marketing term Hostels love to use to attract more travellers.
How to use HostelGeeks?
We are your shortcut to find great hostels all over the world. Just use the hostel map to find the one 5 Star Hostel in town, and go from there – easy peasy! We are not a booking platform, but we will show you where you can score the lowest prices for your booking.
Furthermore, we are currently working on an eBook about the greatest Hostels in Europe, including all 5 Star Hostels. If you are heading to Europe and staying at Hostels, this one is for you. The eBook will be a quick guide to find great European Hostels including great hostel discounts.
Life is too short to stay at bad hostels. We, Anna & Matt, want to introduce you to all the great backpacker accommodation out there. Easy, simple, transparent. So save your time in research, we already did the leg work for you.
