Metallica have been one of my favourite bands since I was in high school and after thinking I would be lucky to ever see them once live, I have eventually seen them 6 times and in 2009 was lucky enough to win a meet and greet!
Metallica “Black” was actually the first proper album I ever bought and back then when I was 12 I never even imagined being able to see the band in concert. But after seeing them at Leeds festival in 2008 that all changed and I followed them around for a few years seeing them at:
Leeds Festival 2008
London Fan Club Show, O2 Arena, 2008
Manchester arena, 2009
Download Festival 2012
For many of these I have managed to get on the front barrier too but by far the greatest was at Sonisphere festival in 2009.
I entered a competition for a meet and greet before the show and to my amazement I actually won. I was so excited but at the same time so scared!! Turns out there are really nice guys and we had a chat, got some photos and had some of my things autographed. After that I returned to the arena and back to Shorty who saved me a place back on the barrier. To make an amazing day even better they played my requested song “Fade to Black” and then during the encore James came down to the front with the mic and recognised me, he actually pointed the mic at me for part of the chorus of the song! My mind was truly blown!
Here are some photos from the Metallica gigs I have been to:
